Reviews about Animal Referral Hospital - Canberra

  • Thank you so very much to the Animal Referral Hospital Canberra for your amazing prompt care of our precious Ricky dog, you saved his life and for that we are forever grateful. We highly recommend this practice, they were very professional, caring and always kept us informed of his progress. So grateful for their skill and support during this stressful time. We love our dog and we are so thankful that in couple of weeks he'll be back chasing balls and making us laugh. Thank you again.

Referred to ARH from general vet for surgery. Presentation of premises is great, after being in with the Vet who seemed very cold and not much personality, the amount for our dog kept creeping up by thousands per minute until we were advised that it would around $9000, also told multiple surgeries at the cost of around $3500 each. As he needed something done we left him there being advised to clean out an ear wound under GA would be $2500?? After getting further information elsewhere a friend referred us onto Sonza and we decided not to go ahead with ARH. I phoned and advised that i didn't want to go ahead and would be picking him up. Then asked how long until I got out to get him. When I went to get him i was cautioned in the use of the vet i was going to and told they wouldn't be able to do the required surgery. Upon arrival at Sonza the staff were amazing. They called to get the information from ARH and were told initially our boy was still an inpatient and then sent blank documents, the information required wasn't sent over until over 3 hours after the initial request. Our boy was seen that afternoon at Sonza and had his surgery completed under ONE GA. Not multiples as they had advised. Also surgery was not as big as told at ARH. I can not speak highly enough of Sonza.. There costs also were less than 1/4 of ARH for the same outcome. Don't understand how they get off charging the prices they do, should be regulated, avoid this place at all costs, there are other specialists and after hours vets in Canberra. I know many people who have been burnt by ARH and the Emergency side. Unless you have your own money making machine AVOID........

I was very disappointed at the organisation of the Practice with our beautiful dog being released way too early due to poor communication with administration staff. This led to wound bleeding which was very distressing. To their credit, mistakes were owned by the principle of the practice but this was not the experience i was led to believe and wouldn't take my pets to the Practice in the future.
